Butterfly Needles are used for venepuncture as the needle is designed with a flexible tube so there is a smaller chance of a patient causing damage to the blood vessel or occlusion of the lumen if they move during the procedure.
This is because the butterfly needle has flexible interlocking wings that readily conform to the body's contour.
